It's Beginning

To feel a lot like Christmas (Charlotte is sick and I had a mini meltdown (4 in 5; 4 in 5 Christmases in the hospital)).

Deep Breath. 2011 Affirmation:  We will not spend Christmas sick & in the hospital.  I want to love Christmas, I DO, but it's incredibly stressful and busy and overloaded.  And this year, we're moving.

We're moving.  In. One. Week.  It's here.

My 4 year old will turn 5 on 12-22.  My youngest is not quite 2 1/2.  It's Christmas and we're moving.  But it could absolutely be worse.  Our family will stay together, we'll be whole and complete.  We will not be making two mortgage payments.  Charlotte will be starting Georgia Pre-K in January and although mom is a little apprehensive, Charlotte met her new class and saw her new school and is very excited.  Ruby is excited if Charlotte is excited but oh, how they will miss these hardwoods and their plasma cars (Super Wilson Sisters!) and the backyard and their sweet, sweet teachers at St. Luke.  As will their mommy...

Charlotte had a CT scan at Egleston last week of her sinuses - our last big medical hurdle (fingers crossed) in preventative medicine.  AND SHE WAS AWESOME!  They scheduled her for a sedation appointment but she didn't need it!  (Miracle.)  And everything looked great!

Nurses gave her a balloon and a bear for a being a champ.

Last week: Adam had a cold; Ruby had a cold.  Charlotte woke up Thursday morning feverish, miserable and coughing.  Ruby had a runny nose that morning so both girls stayed home from school.  Mom was here staying with us so she snuggled into bed with the girls and watched movies and I started the sorting, organizing, packing, purging.

The next day was the day of the Christmas program.  Charlotte had a fever the day before and still felt miserable so she stayed home.  I dressed Ruby up in her Christmas best and headed to the preschool.  She cried and pleaded with me when I dropped her off but her teacher assured me Ruby would be FINE.  I found my adopted "family" for preschool events and sat with them.  When the curtain opened for the two year olds I had to stop myself from jumping up and shouting, 'Ruby!  Hey Ruby!  Mommy's here!!!' I didn't want to distract her - but I saw her looking out at all of those faces...

As soon as they were finishing up that last song I let her know I was 'here! over here!'

Ruby let me know right away she was hungry and somebody had mentioned "cake" to her.

So we had some of Baby Jesus' birthday cake and then I found all Charlotte's friends' parents to let them know her birthday party, which was suppose to be the next day, had to be postponed a week because she was sick.

Mom left later that afternoon.  Two hours before Adam made it home from Atlanta Charlotte's fever rose and she started screaming about her ear.  I mean, really SCREAMING.  Scared me.  It's been a while since she's been sick.  I kicked into action mode.  Acute care was open until 10pm.  Ruby was asleep; I managed to pacify Charlotte until Adam made it home.  Then we headed to the doctor.  I was convinced that I heard wheezing.  Apparently, I did not.  She had a red ear full of puss but her lungs were FINE.  She was "moving" air - there was no constriction...that he could hear.  I said, 'no, no, no, you don't understand...she's probably too tight to wheeze'.  He took my hands and assured me that her lungs sounded good, really good.  We got home, late, and Ruby and Adam were in our bed watching 'Rango' and eating boiled peanuts.  It's a party when daddy gets home.

Wow.  It is awesome having a kid with normal lungs!  Thank God for these medicines and good doctors.

And Ruby is great.  She's sweet and healthy.  I mean, she gets "just colds" all the time!  Which, well, you know, when you're use to "worst case" lots of colds are great.

They're back at school this week for their last full-week of school.

Charlotte & Ruby are best friends.  Oh, it's so precious!  I mean they bicker too, but they love to be together.  Earlier they were playing in a pretty solid fort they've made.  They had princess flashlights, snakes, lizards and frogs (plastic).  And they're whispering to each other and laughing.  Ruby calls her sister "my Charlotte".

Ruby went to her first movie at the theatre on Sunday.  And we made it through!  She was very excited about all the butter popcorn and all the reese cups.  She only had one major meltdown: when Adam stopped her from eating popcorn off the floor.  He managed to run her out while she was still taking her big deep breath before the big scream.  Then they were back in and we finished 'Arthur Christmas' - I mean neither girl really ever "SAT DOWN" but we finished the movie without anyone "shhhing" us.

We got Charlotte's official report back from the psychologist two weeks ago, which stated that Charlotte is showing the beginning signs of "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Inattentive Type" - or ADD.   We suspected she might, but then we thought we were in the "clear" during the feedback session.  Makes sense though.  I'm glad to know...now we can start helping her.  No medication!  She'll be starting play therapy/behavior modification in January.

So, yeah, and we're moving and it's busy.  And we're all feeling the pressure.

Charlotte gives great hugs and Ruby tells me she missed me, and she loves me, over and over throughout the day.  Ruby also follows directions and behaves most of the time.  Charlotte is an amazing child, but a little exhausting.  A child that's easily distratracted...especially in a house full of boxes.

But at least we aren't in the hospital.
