A Life on Horse Back

Over dinner and drinks Friday night, Adam & I decided Ruby was right...we did need to take a trip up to Rome to ride the "neighs".  It was high time.

Ruby calls horses "neighs" even when I say, 'no, HORSE!  Ruby wants to ride the horse'.  She says, 'Ses, I ride neigh!'.

The last time we were at PJ & Kiki's farm was Thanksgiving.  After Adam left work late Saturday afternoon, and I was a bit recovered from the food poisoning given to me by the shady Mexican restaurant Adam insited we try because they might have Friday night margarita specials (they didn't)...we loaded up and headed to Rome.

Five hours later: we arrived.  Atlanta traffic.  The girls still had to go out to the barn to tell the horses goodnight and give them a kiss.  Then they wrestled with PJ.

The next morning the girls went on a long trail ride in the shade.  When Charlotte was Ruby's age she loved to sit on Snickers and ride...for about 7 minutes.  Then she needed off, needed a break.  Not so with Ruby; she would spent the next four years on the back of a horse.  Both girls rode at the same time.  Charlotte on Mariah, the big pony, Ruby on Snickers, the little pony.  Then they traded, then they doubled up.  Walking down the lane when all of us parents and grandparents were all hot and thirsty Ruby spotted Opal and Magic. She wanted to ride those too and hurled herself out of my arms, pointing.

The sisters rode for as long as the horses and the chaperones could stand the heat.  It did not end well.  Meaning: Ruby was not able to spend the entire day on horseback.  She sat on Mariah in the crossties and cried because she wanted to go again.  Then she cried for two more hours.

If Kiki wasn't going to Lexington this week to be in a parade or compete with her Saddlebred I would have left both girls up there...

Too bad.  Actually, I wanted to head to mom & dad's to go swimming after all that walking around in the sticky heat.  Too bad again.  Home to Columbus to begin Vacation Bible School at St. Luke.  I'm working this year with Ruby's age.  It is very exciting.  No really.  VBS=Excitement.  The life of a stay-at-home mom in the summertime.   I'm having fun!  Getting up and dressed and organized every morning!  Packing snacks!  Being surrounded by happy, smiling people!  Talking to grown-ups!  I'm tickled...

...four more days.

That was so cute! Ruby loving the pony so much she didn't want to get off, the pictures are adorable. I'm glad you all got to go to Rome and can only imagine how much fun that was. Summer can be magical. Look forward to seeing you on Friday.
Love, Noni
