Ruby had her dental surgery last Friday at the hospital. We were there at 6am. Her surgery was among the first scheduled - good thing too, because she couldn't have anything to eat or drink. I was anxious, I made Adam do the dishes before we left.

They called us back to prep, we talked to the doctor, the nurses and the anasthesiologist, who reduced my fears greatly when he told me that General Anasthesia is safer than driving to the hopsital...and since we only live a mile away and never go above 40mph I felt like this was a pretty safe bet. We dressed her in her gown and waited. The nurses came and took her. She did hit them and call them naughty but they managed to gas her down before they started her IV.

The actual procedure lasted about an hour. We talked to the surgeon (who in this case is Ruby's dentist,
Dr. Mark Lawrence). Who told us that everything went beautifully. She did end up having all four of her front four teeth drilled down, capped with white porcelain crowns and then she received four nerve treatments which is the equivalent of front baby teeth root canals; she got a small filling or two.
The doctor said that her enamel didn't form correctly in utero. Who knew? He said that during certain times in develop, if there's pressure applied in weird places (like her mouth or face), or certain medications the mom receives during certain phases of pregnancy, they don't really know what causes this enamel deficiency but it presents with the front baby teeth and after those teeth come out there are no other problems.
They called us back to recovery and we were there when she woke up. Whenever she heard Adam's voice her heart rate increased. She slowly came to and after about an hour she drank some water without throwing up so they let us take her home.
When we got home we saw that Adam's Trex bike had been stolen. Nice.
It was a quiet day. I spent the whole day in the glider reading and rocking Ruby.
Her teeth and her gums are still sensitive but it's getting better everyday.
Charlotte spent the weekend with my parents camping at the lake. To which she had the time of her life. It was so
relaxing quiet at the house with her away. That child talks all the time...I think she even managed to surprise Noni and Hoppy with her energy and intensity and spunk. Of course they described the weekend as "magical" but they're that type of grandparent - you know,
their granddaughters are the smartest, cutest, sweetest - the best little girls in the whole wide world.

Charlotte was very excited about Ruby's new teeth and
very proud of her little sis.
YOU DID IT ARUBA!!! HOORAY!
Char wanted to celebrate by throwing a brownie party for Roo. She helped me make brownies (she tastes every ingredient to make sure it's "alright" - you know, not too hot) then she licks the bowl just for good measure, you understand.
We put candles in the brownies and Charlotte made up a congratulatory song and sang it to her.
